Special to the News
Sen. Clyde Chambliss and Rep. Ben Robbins recently stopped by the Coosa County Board of Education to hand deliver a check and review the progress made on the band room and community storm shelter.
The check, totaling $235,000, was a significant contribution that made the building of the band room and community storm shelter possible. Both Chambliss and Robbins have been longtime partners in the success of Coosa County Schools, and the school system and Board appreciate their continued efforts to go above and beyond for the students of Coosa County.
Not only will The Pride of Coosa County Band have a dedicated band room after utilizing a trailer for the last eight years, but the project will also provide the citizens of Coosa County with the first county-wide storm shelter, operated by the Coosa County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) in coordination with the Hanover Volunteer Fire Department.
The project will also include the addition of a restroom and enclosing hallways to and from the main school building to the cafeteria and gym for added student security.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place in late spring as the students left for summer break. The students returned for the 2026-2027 school year and can view the daily progress being made as workers set rebar this week in preparation for laying the foundation.
The students are utilizing a new walkway from the main campus to the cafeteria and gym complex as construction takes place.
We look forward to continuing to share the progress of construction, as well as plans for a ribbon cutting ceremony with completion of the project slated for the Spring of 2027.
