A Kellyton man was arrested earlier this month after allegedly shooting and killing two dogs belonging to two separate victims.
On May 13, Chief Deputy Scott Hammond, Sheriff Michael Howell, Sgt. Travis Ward, and Lt. Bradgel Moon responded to County Road 48 in Kellyton in response to two dogs being fatally shot.
During the investigation, law enforcement officers spoke with two separate victims in the case, each of whom owned of the dogs involved.
One of the victims explained that the suspect took one of the dogs to a residence, put it on a chain and shot it. They said the suspect then went to the other victim’s residence, got the second dog and brought it to the first residence, put it on a chain, and shot it.
One of the dog’s was found deceased on the victim’s property. Hammond reported that the other dog was carried off in a vehicle by the offender.
The investigation culminated in the arrest of 37-year-old James Earl Turner of Kellyton. He was charged with two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.
Turner’s bond was set at $20,000. As of press time he remained in custody at the Coosa County Jail awaiting trial.
