Equality & Nixburg News
Jennifer Williamson
I have decided to not have a full garden this year for numerous reasons, as well as cutting back on a couple of other activities that I enjoy doing.
Somebody said they hope this means I am taking care of me, but sadly cutting out the activities I enjoy doing is not taking care of me. These are the things I enjoy doing, I find peace doing, I feel accomplished and satisfied doing.
Cutting them out was necessary to get other things done, but I don’t feel happy about it. And if this past weekend is any indication it is not good for me as I forgot so many things and just feel it was a wasteful weekend.
If you enjoy doing something; whether gardening, woodworking, refinishing, or whatever activity; make time for it! It may seem arduous to other people who don’t enjoy those things, but it has so many health benefits for those who do enjoy them.
Find time for the things you enjoy; make them a priority. Cut out things that are weighing you down or that you are doing out of obligation. Find a way to cut those things out of your life or at least make them a lower priority.
Sometimes those changes need to happen slowly as others might get upset if you suddenly stop picking up their trash because it brings you no joy, but if they really care, and you really care about you, then it is something that will just have to be accepted.
Community activities that are available that you can support:
- The Equality quilting group which meets every Monday evening from 6 to 8 at Jenny’s General Store. We do more than quilt; some embroider, crochet and other needle arts.
- Kendrick Memorial Baptist Church’s yard sale is held most Saturdays starting at 8 a.m. Address is 5152 Ala. Hwy. 9.
- Elaine Rutledge of Nixburg hosts Rummikub at the Alexander City Senior Center in the Sportplex every first and third Friday starting at 10 a.m.
- Neighborhood Watch meeting is Thursday, March 26, starting at 6:30 p.m.
- The VFD’s First Saturday fundraiser is April 4.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
