On February 12 the Coosa County Career Tech Center (CCCTC) and Literacy Everywhere-Coosa County Schools partnered for a parent literacy night.
We were delighted to have a great night meeting our students’ parents and talking with them about the benefits of Career Tech Education (CTE) courses and all of the opportunities available through Career and Technical Student Organizations.
Mrs. Masters, project director for the Literacy Everywhere grant, spoke with parents about the movement at the high school grade levels from learning to read to reading to learn, and how important literacy is when looking to join the workforce and develop technical skill sets.
Students received a bag full of books about careers, how to enter the workforce and how to be a successful part of an organization. They also received some fun reads about teens and young adults who entered the workforce in some non-traditional ways and young ages, that will help them recognize the importance of transferable skills and that the skills they are developing now in CTE are in fact the skills that are used in the workforce.
And of course, when Literacy Everywhere-Coosa County Schools feeds our minds with books, they also make sure we have fuel for the brain, and this event was no different. All parents, students and staff were provided with dinner, as well.
CCCTC is thankful for the partnership that we have with Literacy Everywhere-Coosa County Schools and the support they provide to our students and staff.
We also want to extend a special thanks to the parents who joined us for the event. It was a great turn out, and we are so pleased that you got to visit our campus and see the great work your students are doing.
Thank you, CCCTC director Hester Hamby, for sharing pictures and information on the event.
