Special to the News
Students and staff started work this week on the arboretum trail of trees to the entrance of the outdoor classroom. The trail will include 25 labeled trees, as well as an ADA-accessible walkway.
The Outdoor Forrest Classroom will connect the school with the current Outdoor Classroom, easing accessibility for students and staff to utilize the Outdoor Classroom, as well as study a variety of tree species on the pathway to the Outdoor Classroom.
The Outdoor Forrest Classroom was made possible through a grant of the Alabama Forestry Foundation.
Thank you to Mary Thurman, the caretaker of Flagg Mountain, who heard about the grant opportunity at a workshop and then notified Coosa County Schools Science Coach Shelley Wood, who went to work applying for the grant. Thank you, also, to Central Alabama Electric Cooperative who volunteered to dig the holes for the trees.
