Central High School recently received a grant to present a Christmas play.
The play was directed by our former theatre teacher and professional actor, Ron McCall. In addition, paraprofessional Justine Clark was instrumental in assisting with production and coordinating details.
The play was a lighthearted Christmas tale and musical where teenagers find themselves without technology over Christmas break. The teenage girls; played by Anna Grace Trussell, Alyssa Woodfin and Jenni Yates; are spending time at grandma’s house, played by Katie Griffith, when they lose internet service as they are filming a TikTok video. The loss of service provides grandma an opportunity to introduce the teenage girls to a different kind of fun with board games and a record player.
At the next door neighbor’s house four teenage boys; played by DeVyan Whetstone, Luiz Martinez, Joseph James, and Emmanuel Guzman; are at their mom’s house, played by Chamorra Long, playing video games as the internet goes out for them, as well.
The boys’ mom is a teacher, named Mrs. Lee in homage to our principal, so they are stuck helping grade papers when they hear the girls next door singing. They join the girls in singing a melody of Christmas favorites.
The play was narrated by Chloe Jones. In addition, Kaylyn Gould, Heidi Phillips and Adrianna Walker managed sound, and Caden Miller was the film crew.
Thank you, also, to the special education department who got into the Christmas spirit and handed out candy canes to the audience.
The student performers really enjoyed themselves, and the audience enjoyed the show so much that we are looking for more opportunities to bring short performances to our student body.
