This year marks Ms. Belyeu’s 26th year in education. She proudly serves as the seventh and eighth grade math teacher at Central High School. Over the years, Ms. Belyeu has had the privilege of helping many students grow, not only in their math skills, but also in their confidence and love for learning.
Ms. Belyeu’s teaching philosophy is simple, “I teach my students the same way I would want someone to teach my own child. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a student who once struggled with math begin to understand it and even enjoy it. I always remind my students that ‘we learn by making mistakes.’ My goal is to create a classroom environment where students feel comfortable taking risks, asking questions and learning from their errors.”
This year, Ms. Belyeu started the Cougar Incentive Program to promote and reward positive behavior throughout the seventh and eighth grade section of the school. The incentives range from small treats in the classroom to special field trips that give students new and exciting experiences.
Ms. Belyeu said, “It has been such a joy watching students work hard and encourage one another in positive ways.”
Ms. Belyeu also coordinates the Student of the Month program and the iReady incentive program.
Ms. Belyeu added, “Central High School is truly a great place to work. We’re more than colleagues; we are a family. I am grateful every day to be part of a supportive school community where I can do what I love most, helping students believe in themselves and succeed.”
Congratulations, Ms. Belyeu; we are truly blessed to have such a caring, knowledgeable and conscientious educator for our students.
