Central alumni, family and friends came out Saturday evening to Cougar Field for the third annual Central Baseball Alumni Game thanks to the organization of the game by alumni Kyle and Danielle Beasley.
Alumni as far back as 2006, Caleb Camp, participated, with alumni Tyler and Trevor Stover traveling the farthest to participate from Camp Humphrey, Korea, and Nellis AFB, Nevada.
The Odd Years versus Even Years teams played two games, with some of the even-year alumni playing on the odd-year alumni team to balance out the teams.
The Odd Years alumni players included Craig Dunham, 2009; Blake Schmidt, 2007; Trey Brown, 2011; Tyler Stover, 2011; Cameron Taylor, 2013; Quin Gilbert, 2023; and Ry Gilbert, 2023.
The Even Years alumni players included Caleb Camp, 2006; Kyle Beasley, 2010; Phillip Carlisle, 2008; Miles Varner, 2012; Johnathan Ashley, 2016; Jonah Schmidt, 2016; Trevor Stover, 2016; TJ Lamberth, 2018; Dawson Duncan, 2020; and Bryer Murchinson, 2020.
This year the Even Years team won both games.
Registration fees, which included a uniform shirt and hat, along with ticket and concession sales, and donations raised approximately $1,000 for the Cougar baseball program, which will be used for equipment upgrades for the upcoming season.
Special thank you, also, to alumni press box operator Christian Lee and current press box operator Caden Miller, as well as the various alumni Diamond Dolls who popped into the concession to lend a hand when needed.
Thank you, also, to the sponsors of the 2026 Central baseball alumni game, Commissioner John Forbus, Sheriff Michael Howell and Judge David Law.
Players and fans alike had such a good time watching the game, visiting with old classmates and enjoying Pelican Ice. Thank you to the alumni and their families for supporting this annual event; we look forward to seeing everyone again next year with the hopes of expanding the annual alumni game to include more players in a single elimination tournament format.
Thank you, also, to Central head coach Clay Shearer and assistant coach Daryl Ingram, along with alumni Kyle Beasley, for all your hard work preparing the field for the alumni game. The “Once a Cougar, Always a Cougar” spirit made for a great day at Cougar Field.
Central High School teacher Debi Stover commented, “My brother was in town visiting, and he made the observation that an alumni event such as this would never happen at the Department of Defense high school we attended or the high school we graduated from in Las Vegas. It made me think, maybe that is why I love our small community school so much; because I have been elsewhere, I know we have something special, a sense of community and looking out for each other’s kids that you cannot get everywhere. I am thankful our sons had the opportunity to graduate from Central, and I am so proud of our community and alumni for supporting their school. Sic parvis magna, ‘Greatness from small beginnings.’”
