July 12

The Coosa County Girl Scouts will have its first monthly meeting on Saturday, July 12, at 9:30 a.m. The meeting will include introductory activities, fiscal year planning and upcoming events. The meeting will be held at 8840 County Road 18, Rockford. Turn on the road in front of Triple R Cafe. For those interested in joining or who would like more information, contact Shannon Nicole White.

The grand opening celebration at Kelly’s Crossroads will be held Saturday, July 12, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. We’ll be serving up BBQ sandwiches! Come grab some good eats and help us celebrate this next chapter – can’t wait to see you there! Kelly’s Crossroads is located in Richville at the intersection of Alabama Highway 22 and County Road 29.

 

July 15

Bees: What’s the buzz? Join us to learn the fundamentals of bee keeping! The Coosa County Extension Office will host a class on bee keeping at 10 a.m. on July 15. It will be held at the Extension office, located at the old Central High School building in Hanover (address: 243 County Road 75, Rockford). July 19

The Legends: The Annual Alumni Basketball Game will be held July 19 at Central Coosa High School, located at 97 County Road 75, Rockford. Doors open at 12 p.m. Tip-off is at 1 p.m. Admission: $10. Watch Central Coosa and Benjamin Russell alumni battle it out on the court!

Millerville Third Saturday Trade Day will be July 19, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lots of stuff for sale inside the old school. Free set up outside for items you want to sell. Call 205-317-7798 for more information.

 

July 21

The monthly meeting of the Coosa County Conservation District Board will be on Monday, July 21, at 10 a.m. at the District Office located in Hanover at 226 Coosa County Road 157.

 

July 23-25

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System is hosting a Kids’ Cooking Camp at the I-HOPE Center, located at the former Goodwater High School, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 23-25. Activities will include kitchen safety, kitchen etiquette, healthy eating activities, and cooking. The I-HOPE Center is located at 166 Harris Street, Goodwater. July 26

Bingo in Millerville will be held at the Bibb Graves Community Center on Saturday, July 26, from 5-8 p.m. Cards are 50 cents each. Door prizes and black-out Bingo. Food available.

 

August 13

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System is hosting “Right Bite: Diabetes Cooking School” at the I-HOPE Center in Goodwater. This educational series is aimed at individuals with diabetes, but it is open and helpful for everyone. Learn meal planning and cooking methods to reduce calories, control carbs, modify fats, increase fiber, and more! Classes are held from 12 to 1 p.m. on August 13, October 8, November 12, and December 9. The I-HOPE Center is at the old Goodwater School, located at 166 Harris Street.

 

Weekly

The Goodwater Youth Development and Recreational Center is open to the public weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and practice days for the travel ball team are those same days from 5 to 6 p.m. Cheerleader practice is held on Wednesdays and Fridays. Monthly

Richville Neighborhood Watch will be held the first Thursday of each month at the fire department, 13185 Coosa County Rd. 14, Rockford, 35136. The gathering begins with a potluck meal at 6 p.m., and the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Come out and see what is happening in your community.

Monthly breakfast returns to West Coosa Senior Center! The West Coosa Senior Center in Stewartville will host breakfast on the fourth Saturday of each month from 7-10 a.m. at the center, located at 47 Coosa County Road 70, Sylacauga, 35151 (the old Stewartville School). Breakfast is $8 per plate with choice of ham, bacon, sausage, eggs, gravies, and more! Dine in or call ahead at 256-249-2024 to carry out. Donations appreciated! Breakfast will be served monthly now through October, with it not being held in November or December.

West Coosa Friday Night Dance & Dine will be held the second Friday of each month at the West Coosa Senior Center! Live oldies music by The Misfitz Band, Potluck supper – bring your favorite covered dish to share. Doors open at 5 p.m., and supper starts at 5:15 p.m. Admission is FREE! This is a family friendly event – no alcohol! Friday Night Dance & Dine is proudly sponsored by J&J Pest Away. The senior center is located at 47 Coosa County Road 70, Stewartville, 35151.

 

Quarterly

The Hanover Community Club and Neighborhood Watch will now hold quarterly gatherings at Andrews Chapel. These quarterly gatherings are held on the third Tuesday of March, June, September, and December at Andrews Chapel Fellowship Hall at 6 p.m. Everyone is cordially invited and encouraged to attend. Y’all come!
