Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Well, June is here! Now that Memorial Day has passed, summer has officially started. However, for some students and teachers school is not out just yet.
Summer classes at Central started this week for four weeks, so you might see the yellow bus on the road. They have several pick-up and drop-off locations around the county, not individual homes.
The Richville Volunteer Fire Department will host their monthly Bingo next Saturday, June 14, at 6:30 p.m., so mark your calendars and plan to attend. We always have a good time even if you don’t win a prize.
Providence Baptist Church had their homecoming Sunday with great music by Promised Land and a good message by Jeff Hardy. Don’t forget their Vacation Bible School starts on Monday, June 16, at 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Family night will be on June 19.
I went to the Rockford Spring Fling at the Park last Saturday. They had a good turnout with many folks stopping by to see all the vendors and food trucks. I made a few purchases and got to visit with several friends. Also, I got a rib plate from LeeBoys BBQ, and it was delicious. Looking forward to them opening a place in town soon.
The “Old Rock Jail” will be open this Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. If you haven’t visited come by and check out the oldest rock jail in Alabama. Historical sites are important to our heritage, and many are disappearing through neglect and “progress.”
While I understand that progress is necessary, we need to try to preserve historical sites with planning around those sites. Many times a historical site can be saved by having a positive outlook to save it. There is always more than one way to accomplish a goal.
My Bible verses this week are found in Isaiah 46:9-10, which reads, “Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.’”
These verses compare the man-made gods with the Lord God. These gods which the Israelites often worshiped were useless to help and even a burden with all the rules they demanded. Because God created man, He could take care of them with His knowledge and power to use history. We need to learn from history ourselves.
Be in prayer for all those that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times, when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
