Dr. Conkle, also known as Coach Conkle, teaches tenth and twelfth grade English-Language Arts and is the Junior High Head Football Coach and Assistant Varsity Football Coach. This is Dr. Conkle’s first year at Central, but he has multiple years of teaching experience.
Dr. Conkle said, “I aim to always strive for excellence personally, and if I fall short then generally I am still above average. I attempt to convey such an attitude to others and try to help them have the same growth mindset. I believe in a ‘tough love’ approach with students and athletes.”
He added, “I will not accept you as you are. Instead, I will show you a vision of what you could be and help you achieve it.”
Dr. Conkle bases his life, teaching and coaching with these thoughts from others: “Nobody got anywhere in the world by simply being content.” – Louis L’Amour, author; and “Perfection is not attainable; but, if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.” – Vince Lombardi, football coach.
When asked what he loves most about teaching, Dr. Conkle said, “I enjoy ‘seeing the light bulb come on’ when someone succeeds at something they have never before been able to achieve or accomplish. I like observing others when they have ‘ah-ha moments’ in life, when they learn something they did not know before that moment.”
In his free time Dr. Conkle enjoys cooking in the kitchen, grilling, reading for recreation, fishing, hunting, and visiting interesting places with his wife. Congratulations, Dr. Conkle; we are glad you joined the Central Coosa family.
