Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Hope everyone is adjusting to the new time. There is talk of making it permanent which is fine by me; I really dislike making the transition. It takes me about a week to get used to the “new” time!
Leprechauns, pots of gold, shamrocks, and green! What is that about? It’s Saint Patrick’s Day on Monday. So, be sure and wear your green or take the risk of being pinched.
According to folklore, wearing green makes you invisible to leprechauns. They are mischievous creatures who like to pinch people, so if you wear any other color on this holiday, you’re easy to spot! I don’t think it’s as popular or maybe it’s not as well known about the tradition as it’s not practiced as much now as years ago.
The Richville Volunteer Fire Department and Neighborhood Watch will have a Spring Fling on April 5 from 4 to 6 p.m. followed by Bingo at 6:30. There will be games for kids and adults. Plans are still being made so more details to follow. They need donations of cakes and baked goods for the cake walk and new toys for the toy walk. They will also be selling concessions. Watch for more details in my columns in the next few weeks.
Don’t forget about the free tax clinic at Rockford Methodist Church Fellowship Hall each Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The last day for drop-offs will be April 2 with pickups only on April 9.
Last week’s Bible verse was about change, so continuing with that theme, this week’s verse is Deuteronomy 31:6. It reads, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
We all seem to be uncomfortable with change. Think about it! How many times will you grab a favorite (old) shirt to wear because it’s comfortable instead of wearing a new shirt? We hold on to those clothes because they make us feel “comfortable.”
Change is scary! We don’t feel in control because it’s something different. But God is there with us in all situations. We need to learn to accept change that occurs in our lives by depending on God to get us through it until it becomes comfortable like that old shirt.
Change is the only way for us to grow to become more Christlike. When we accept Jesus in our hearts, we don’t automatically become Christlike; it takes change in our minds and hearts. God has a plan for us; we just need to have faith in Him to guide us.
Be in prayer for all those that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times, when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
