Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
This is the last day in January 2025! Where has the month gone? Maybe the freezing temperatures with snow and ice are gone for a while. February is a short month, especially when there is no leap year.
The next Bingo night for the Richville Volunteer Fire Department will be Saturday, March 1, so mark your calendars and make plans to come out for a good time. It starts at 6 p.m. and play 20 games for $10. There are a variety of prizes to choose from, so everyone who wins can find something.
As I mentioned last week, I have a new great-granddaughter born last week. She is beautiful, maybe a little prejudice! Mom and baby are doing good, as well as all the first-time grandparents.
Just a reminder that the VCCA tax clinic will start on Wednesday, February 5, at Rockford Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Someone will be there from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Wednesday through April 9. Appointments can be made by calling the Alexander City location at 256-234-0347. Be sure to tell them you want an appointment for the Rockford location. Walk-ins are welcome, also.
The Coosa County Historical Society is postponing its usual first quarter meeting in January to Sunday, February 23, at the Rockford Senior Center at 2 p.m. We have several items for discussion and encourage members to attend to vote on these matters. You can mail a check to P.O. Box 5, Rockford, AL 35136 to join or renew for $15. Please include your email to receive the newsletter or add $5 to receive printed copies, as well as your address.
Make plans to attend the training series “Conversations: A Simple Approach to Sharing the Gospel,” hosted by Union Baptist Church. This training will be put on by the Gideons, led by Scott Sparks, on February 5, 12 and 19 at 6 p.m. It is open to anyone interested in learning to share the Gospel.
This is the last week for Bible verses about encouragement. Next month they will focus on love since Valentines Day is in February. So, my Bible verses for this week are Isaiah 40:30-31, which read, “Youths may faint and grow weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint.”
What a wonderful promise God gives to us about encouragement. Being on wings of an eagle takes us to a new level or height in our trust in God. It creates an uplifting of our spirit with God. Regardless of age, we can get overwhelmed with everything going on around us. This is a promise that if we trust in God, He will provide the strength we need to survive whatever comes our way.
Please be in prayer for the June Ward family, one of my sisters-in-law, as she passed away earlier this week. Be in prayer for all those that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times, when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
