With the initial fundraising goals being met, work began this week on the Coosa County Animal Shelter as volunteers spent time in the early stages of remodeling the old Stewartville Volunteer Fire Department building to turn it into the new animal shelter. Volunteers donated their time and labor three days this week to help the shelter come closer to becoming a reality. Work done this week included tearing out the restrooms, checking the electrical work, tearing out the ceiling in what will be the kennel area, removing debris, and more. Work was also performed yesterday at the site. Animal Shelter Board Chair and Operations Manager Dennis Hill said that work on the roof and restroom will be upcoming, but the contractor for those projects is undetermined at this time.
