Happy birthday to all those having birthdays in November, which includes a grandson and a great-granddaughter. This month we also have Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and the Alabama/Auburn ballgame! It’s a busy month!
Congratulations to the Cougars on their win over LaFayette! Great way to end the season!
November is here, and with it came the time change last week. It’s not been long enough yet for my body to adjust! I’m sleepy earlier than usual then I’m awake earlier than usual.
Hopefully soon 10 at night won’t feel so late, then maybe I can sleep past 5 a.m. I’m ready for them to decide to stay on one time, regardless of how they choose to do it.
As I’m writing this on election eve, I hope everyone goes out to vote. As an American, it is one right we have that we should exercise every chance we get.
However, working at the polls I see fewer younger people coming out to vote. I’ve voted every election (general, primary and special) since I was able to vote. I just don’t understand the apathy of our nation, state and county in voting. We may not like the government or the elected officials, but not voting doesn’t change anything.
Saturday was Halloween and Rockford’s trick-or-treat event. According to all reports, even with the threat of rain there was still a good turnout. I know Providence Baptist gave out a lot of treat bags.
Providence Baptist Church on November 20 will host Kid’s Night Out, which includes a packing party for Operation Christmas Child boxes. There will be supplies for the kids to use to fill a box.
As I mentioned earlier, I go vote, and I don’t understand those who are able but just make the decision not to vote. So, my Bible verse this week is about civic duty as a Christian.
Romans 13:1-2 reads, “Everyone must submit to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those that exist are instituted by God. So then, the one who resists the authority is opposing God’s command, and those who oppose it will bring judgment on themselves.”
Paul is teaching here that civil government exist by God’s design to keep society functioning. Regardless of who the leaders are, the concept of order itself is allowed under God’s sovereignty. We should be law-abiding citizens who respect the government rules, not creating chaos. We must always obey God’s direct commands first and foremost, but we can’t take the law into our own hands. However, we have to hold authorities accountable, and one way is to vote.
Our community has lost three different men in the last couple of weeks who either lived here or were related to many in the area. So, be in prayer for them, as well as those in our community that are ill. Remember the shut-ins in our community, as well. They don’t just need our prayers, but can benefit from visits, also, even if it’s just a phone call.
