Equality & Nixburg News
Jennifer Williamson
Equality Methodist Church is hosting a concert by Deep South Revival on November 22 at 5 p.m. Please make plans to come and spend some time with Equality Methodist Church and enjoy some great gospel music. Everyone is welcome.
Equality Neighborhood Watch meeting for November and December will be combined into one meeting held on Thursday, December 3, at 6 p.m. Dinner is provided, donations are accepted, and you are welcome to share a dish or dessert if you like. This is a holiday celebration including Dirty Santa Game; if you want to participate bring a $10 wrapped item.
Jenny’s General had their first Azure Standard organic grocery delivery this week, including some avocado oil, olive oil, canned green beans, canned pumpkin, organic crunchy and creamy peanut butter, cream of mushroom soup, frozen broccoli, fresh onions, ginger, avocado, mushrooms, limes, cabbage, celery, and cauliflower in limited quantities.
Each month items will be replenished if sales go well or items added as customers respond to new organic grocery sales. Due to the uncertainty, there will be more shelf-stable canned items and longer life frozen items offered as fresh produce has a shorter shelf life and if not purchased will be a store loss.
For those not familiar with Azure Standard, it is an organic bulk buying co-op that provides access to a wide range of natural and organic grocery items. This includes fresh produce, pantry staples, household goods, and personal care products.
The company is based in Oregon and operates throughout the United States. There is no membership fee; just open a free account, order online, choose a drop location such as Jenny’s General Store, and when the monthly delivery is made go to the drop location and assist in unloading the truck and sorting the items with other Azure shoppers.
Or just shop at Jenny’s General for the items they will be carrying in the store, understanding that there will be a slightly higher price at Jenny’s for processing and shipping costs.
Community activities that are available in Equality and Nixburg areas:
- Drive Through Prayer at Equality Methodist Church every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the church. If you have a prayer need you can drive up to the church, stay in your car, and someone will come out and pray with and for you.
- The Equality quilting group meets every Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., temporarily moved to Jean Moe Prince’s quilting shed until Jenny’s General Store renovations are complete. We do more than quilt; some embroider, crochet and other needle arts. And yes, we still meet every week!
- Elaine Rutledge of Nixburg hosts Rummikub at the Alexander City Senior Center in the Sportplex every Friday starting at 10 a.m.
- Equality Neighborhood Watch meeting on the fourth Thursday of every month except for November and December because of the holidays.
- Equality Volunteer Fire Department Fundraiser on the first Saturday of every month.
