A Verbena woman was arrested last Saturday for driving under the influence, making it the second DUI arrest in the county within a month.
On October 17, the Sheriff’s Office dispatch was advised of a reckless driver coming form Elmore County into Coosa County on U.S. Highway 231. The driver reportedly almost struck four different vehicles, and the Sheriff’s Office had received four different calls about the vehicle.
Deputy Kelley located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. He approached the driver, and according to reports it appeared that she was very confused.
While speaking to the driver, Kelley smelled an odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle and also noticed the driver had slurred speech.
After being asked, she admitted to having consumed alcohol. Kelley asked her to step out of the vehicle to conduct standard field sobriety tests, and she failed all tests given.
Elizabeth M. Wright, 45 years old, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
Her bond was set at $2,000. She has since been released on bond to await trial.
