August 17

The Coosa County Soil and Water Conservation District meeting will be on Monday, August 17, at 10 a.m. at the District office located at 226 Coosa County Road 157 in Hanover.

The Rockford Utilities Board will meet at 6 p.m. at the Board Office on Monday, August 17. The Utilities Board is located at 9301 U.S. Hwy. 231, Rockford, near Dollar General. For more information call 256-935-4004.

 

September 12

A Wild Hog Workshop will be held at the Weogufka Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Attend this workshop for informative sessions on trapping and processing wild pigs. Also learn about herbs that pair well with pork and safe food preparation. Free admission for ages 12 and under. Fee: $10. For more information contact Dani Reams at 256-368-1694. The Weogufka Center is located at 145 Memorial Loop, Weogufka.

 

October 10

CAEC and Central Access will host a benefit fishing tournament with all proceeds going to the CAEC Lineman Scholarship Fund. The fishing tournament will be held Saturday, October 10, on Lake Mitchell at Higgins Ferry from safe daylight until 3 p.m. Guaranteed first prize of $2,500. First through fifth places paid. Registration information will be coming soon. The CAEC Lineman Scholarship Fund provides opportunities for future line workers to join the men and women already serving our communities.

 

Weekly

The Goodwater Youth Development and Recreational Center is open to the public weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and practice days for the travel ball team are those same days from 5 to 6 p.m. Cheerleader practice is held on Wednesdays and Fridays. The “Old Rock Jail” in Rockford is once again open for tours each Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. until the end of June, except for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Memorial Day weekend. It will be closed the months of July and August and will reopen in September, the Sunday after Labor Day, until the end of October. Admission is $3 for adults and free for children under 12.

 

Monthly

Richville Neighborhood Watch will be held the first Thursday of each month at the fire department, 13185 Coosa County Rd. 14, Rockford, 35136. The gathering begins with a potluck meal at 6 p.m., and the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Come out and see what is happening in your community.

Monthly breakfast returns to West Coosa Senior Center! The West Coosa Senior Center in Stewartville will host breakfast on the fourth Saturday of each month from 7-10 a.m. at the center, located at 47 Coosa County Road 70, Sylacauga, 35151 (the old Stewartville School). Breakfast is $8 per plate with choice of ham, bacon, sausage, eggs, gravies, and more! Dine in or call ahead at 256-249-2024 to carry out. Donations appreciated! Breakfast will be served monthly now through October, with it not being held in November or December.

West Coosa Friday Night Dance & Dine will be held the second Friday of each month at the West Coosa Senior Center! Live oldies music by The Misfitz Band, Potluck supper – bring your favorite covered dish to share. Doors open at 5 p.m., and supper starts at 5:15 p.m. Admission is FREE! This is a family friendly event – no alcohol! Friday Night Dance & Dine is proudly sponsored by J&J Pest Away. The senior center is located at 47 Coosa County Road 70, Stewartville, 35151.
