Equality & Nixburg News
Jennifer Williamson
Fall is coming, eventually. I know it is, but how long will it stay? There has been a lot of talk about how this winter will be colder than normal because of a super El Nino weather pattern traveling further south than normal. Well, that’s according to the weather simulations, which can be in error from time to time.
Whether they are correct or incorrect I will be stocking up on firewood and propane to supplement our heat. And I have added insulation into the front room I have been renovating, so that will help.
I have also heard talk about possible trucking strikes that will affect many products’ prices, especially food, and did some research and it is unfounded. Some are saying to stock up now to save; some of this is caution, and some is what I call fear mongering.
Last time we stocked up we ended up with a surplus that we had to work through as I don’t believe in food waste so a lot of it was donated.
Now I am not a reactive person and don’t go for all the fear mongering, but I do believe in preparedness. I grew up with my grandparents and parents preparing for winter, canning and storing food and fuel. And if anything, the past six years have taught me to be prepared for just about anything, including power failures, toilet paper shortages, lockdowns, and rising costs of just about everything.
My advice is to be prepared, stock up just for winter, but don’t hoard or overdo it, and most of all, don’t panic.
Big John’s Liquidation has brought in some nice stuff, everything from cool toys my grandson enjoyed, to larger items like projectors and remote lawnmowers. Jenny’s General has all your holiday baking spices and herbs, as well as some other healthy and natural items. For the fishers in the area don’t forget CJ’s Fishing Hole for all your fishing equipment and supplies. Shop local; shop small.
