Goodbye summer, hello school! July was a busy month with the Fourth of July holiday, my birthday and the arrival of another great-grand! August 6 will be the first day of school so get ready to see those big yellow buses back on the road.
The next Richville Volunteer Fire Department Bingo will be August 22 starting at 6:30 p.m. So, mark your calendars and plan to come out and have fun. This will be the last Bingo until after football season.
They serve concessions, also, and usually have a cake or two to auction off. Also, it’s time to get your name on the list for those delicious Boston Butts. More information in next week’s column.
Providence Baptist Church will have a back-to-school kid’s day tomorrow, Saturday, August 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be food, games and a water slide (weather permitting).
We will have backpacks to give out based on grade level, so please call and register your child so we will have enough prepared for the grade level.
Also, there will be someone doing free haircuts, but a child will need a note signed by parents giving permission. Please call MaLisa at 334-467-7725 to register your child.
Union Baptist Church will have homecoming on Sunday, August 16, starting at 10:30 a.m. Chris Crumbley will bring the message, and David Vick will provide the special music. Following the service, there will be a potluck lunch in the fellowship hall. All are invited.
This week my Bible verse is again about fellowship. I Corinthians 12:12-14 reads, “For as the body is one and has many parts, and all the parts of that body, though many, are one body – so also is Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body – whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free – and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. So, the body is not one part but many.”
Regardless of our social, racial and economic backgrounds, Christians have a mutual unity in Christ. Paul is comparing the church to a physical body to explain that every person is important as part of the church.
Also, just as our bodies are hindered from functioning without various parts, so is the church. Our bodies would have a hard time functioning if we were only just a giant head, so also the church needs many different parts.
No individual is less important than another. Everyone in the church is important! You as an individual contribute to the success of the church. Just as our body has many different parts, so should the church be.
No one in the church is less valuable than another. So, attending services is important because if you aren’t there, then an essential part of the church is missing. You might never know how important just being there is to someone else.
Pray, also, for others that have lost loved ones in our community, as well as those that are ill. Remember the shut-ins in our community, as well. They don’t just need our prayers, but can benefit from visits, also, even if it’s just a phone call.
