On Friday, July 3, at approximately 12:55 a.m., Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) K-9 was notified of a trespasser on state property at Ventress Correctional Facility.
K-9 personnel responded to the area, and tracking dogs were deployed. A track was established, and three miles in, suspect Cameron Rashun Byrd was apprehended at approximately 3:40 a.m.
They also located the contraband he was attempting to introduce at Ventress.
He was escorted out of the woods and transported to the Law Enforcement Services Division (LESD) office and interviewed. At approximately 5:30 a.m., Byrd was arrested, transported to the Barbour County Jail and charged with first- and second-degree promoting prison contraband, first-degree possession of marijuana and trespassing about prisons.
Byrd was previously arrested at Ventress on contraband charges on December 25, 2025.
The LESD investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be pending.

- 346 grams of marijuana
