Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
June is a busy month! Central Elementary and High School Summer Camp are scheduled for this month. This coming up week concludes the four-week sessions.
Sardis had its VBS last week, and Providence finished theirs Wednesday night. Each church used a different theme and reported good turnout for both.
I’m finishing my column on primary runoff day. So far we’ve had a low turnout, which is expected. Then Father’s Day is this Sunday. If you still have your father, be thankful!
I had two great-granddaughters due in June. However, babies are on their own time schedule. One came early at the end of May, and the other came later than expected, arriving June 11. This granddaughter lives in North Carolina and has a 16-month-old. So, Grandma has been to North Carolina off and on for the last three weeks to watch her while mama and daddy went to doctor appointments and hospital. The next one isn’t due until the end of July, and she’s local!
The next Richville Volunteer Fire Department bingo will be July 18 starting at 6:30 p.m. Also, they will be serving concessions. So, come out for a good time for a good cause. They usually have a good turnout with a cake auction included.
The Old Rock Jail will be closed this Sunday because of Father’s Day weekend. However, it will be open during Rockford’s 250 Celebration on June 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and free for children under 12. We will have a selection of our books to sell, also.
So, plan to come out and not only tour the jail, but purchase books about Coosa County! We take checks or cash only!
Also, the Historical Society Reference/Record Room is now open on the last Wednesday of each month from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is located in the Old Health Department/Driver’s License Building next to the Post Office.
Providence Baptist Church had its Kids Night Out/VBS Kick-off with a water slide and other games. There was a good turnout with lots of fun and laughs. The next one will be before school starts as a close out for summer and kickoff for school. More at a later date.
Also, Providence held its annual Homecoming on Sunday, June 7. We had a full house with past members attending, also.
This week my Bible verse is about lifting each other up. Ephesians 4:29 reads, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”
I could have said my verse was about gossip, which is unwholesome talk, but that would be negative, and this verse is about positivity. However, we are often much quicker to mention negative things about others instead of the positive things in a situation. I challenge you, as well as me, to keep negative or unwholesome talk out of your speech this week. Look on the positive side in all things.
Pray for those that have lost loved ones in our community, as well as those that are ill. Remember the shut-ins in our community, as well. They don’t just need our prayers, but can benefit from visits, also, even if it’s just a phone call.
