June 2-30

The Goodwater Public Library is kicking off its Summer Reading Program! Join the library in celebrating America’s 250th birthday during the Summer Reading Program every Tuesday in June – June 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 – from 10 to 11 a.m. Goodwater Library is located at 62 Coosa County Road 66. June 3 and 6

The 88th Weogufka Alumni Reunion will be held June 6 at the Weogufka High School Auditorium. Doors will open at 5 p.m. with a business meeting at 5:30 and dinner at 6 p.m. We will be honoring the class of 1976 immediately following dinner. Entertainment and dancing music provided by Classic Country Revival beginning at 7:30. Dinner is $25 per person. Additional charge for those attending the dance, with or without dinner. Music and dance open to the public. Reservations must be made by June 3. For reservations or more details call 256-404-4152.

 

June 9-July 21
Come join the Rockford Public Library for its Summer Reading Program! The Summer Reading Program will be held June 9 and 23, and July 7 and 21, at 2:30 p.m. at Rockford Public Library, located inside Town Hall. Fun, snacks and giveaways! For more information call 256-377-4911.

 

June 11-13

Muddy Water Bluegrass Festival will be held June 11-13 at the Weogufka Center, located at 145 Memorial Loop in Weogufka. Thursday and Friday will feature open jamming all day! Bluegrass Scramble on Friday at 6 p.m. Stage shows starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 13. Saturday stage shows include the Bluegrass Scramble Band & Pine Mountain at 11 a.m., McMeans Brothers Band at 12 p.m., Cowgirl Up at 1 p.m., Bluegrass Connection at 2 p.m., McMeans Brothers at 3 p.m., Beyond Blessed at 4 p.m., Cowgirl Up at 5 p.m., and We’re Still Here at 6 p.m. Rain or shine event. Free admission, but donations appreciated. Concessions by Memphis to Bama BBQ. Bring a chair or blanket. Come try out our new dance stage! June 15
The Coosa County Soil and Water Conservation District meeting will be on Monday, June 15, at 10 a.m. at the District office, located at 226 Coosa County Road 157 in Hanover.

The Rockford Utilities Board will meet at 6 p.m. at the Board Office on Monday, June 15. The Utilities Board is located at 9301 U.S. Hwy. 231, Rockford, near Dollar General. For more information call 256-935-4004.

 

June 20

Save the Date! Quilts in the Grove, June 20, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., at the Coosa County Training/J D Thompson Alumni Building in Cottage Grove, located at 1854 County Rd. 93, Kellyton, 35089.  The day will include a quilt exhibit, Juneteenth display, produce and clothing vendors, food concession, and Denim Fashions with the Jazzercisers/Sewers. Quilts for the exhibit will be received on June 17 (10 a.m. – 3 p.m.), and there is a $20 registration fee per quilt. Call 404-435-8823 for more information and to pre-register your quilt in the exhibit.

 

June 27
Come join the Rockford Public Library for fun, food and giveaways on Saturday, June 27, at the Rockford playground from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Activities will include a story time at 1 p.m., bounce house with water slide, petting zoo, bookmobile, music, and the Coosa County Extension STEM Mobile Lab.

The Town of Rockford celebrates 250 years of the United States’ freedom on Saturday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Join us in and around the park and along main street for vendors, music, a water slide for the kids, petting zoo (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.), story time and giveaways from the library, veterans’ commemoration, and more. July 11

Sav-a-Life is hosting a 35th anniversary celebration on Saturday, July 11, at 5 Lee Street, Alexander City, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be inflatables, food trucks, dirty sodas, loaded teas, a dunking booth, live music, and door prizes! Fun for the whole family!

 

Weekly

The Goodwater Youth Development and Recreational Center is open to the public weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and practice days for the travel ball team are those same days from 5 to 6 p.m. Cheerleader practice is held on Wednesdays and Fridays. The “Old Rock Jail” in Rockford is once again open for tours each Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. until the end of June, except for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Memorial Day weekend. It will be closed the months of July and August and will reopen in September, the Sunday after Labor Day, until the end of October. Admission is $3 for adults and free for children under 12.

 

Monthly

Richville Neighborhood Watch will be held the first Thursday of each month at the fire department, 13185 Coosa County Rd. 14, Rockford, 35136. The gathering begins with a potluck meal at 6 p.m., and the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Come out and see what is happening in your community.

Monthly breakfast returns to West Coosa Senior Center! The West Coosa Senior Center in Stewartville will host breakfast on the fourth Saturday of each month from 7-10 a.m. at the center, located at 47 Coosa County Road 70, Sylacauga, 35151 (the old Stewartville School). Breakfast is $8 per plate with choice of ham, bacon, sausage, eggs, gravies, and more! Dine in or call ahead at 256-249-2024 to carry out. Donations appreciated! Breakfast will be served monthly now through October, with it not being held in November or December.

West Coosa Friday Night Dance & Dine will be held the second Friday of each month at the West Coosa Senior Center! Live oldies music by The Misfitz Band, Potluck supper – bring your favorite covered dish to share. Doors open at 5 p.m., and supper starts at 5:15 p.m. Admission is FREE! This is a family friendly event – no alcohol! Friday Night Dance & Dine is proudly sponsored by J&J Pest Away. The senior center is located at 47 Coosa County Road 70, Stewartville, 35151.
