Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day, but also remembered the reason for the holiday. I had a wonderful start to the weekend with the unexpected birth of a new great-granddaughter.
She wasn’t due until later in June, but arrived Friday evening, tiny but healthy. This makes great-grand number thirteen, with two more due in June and July! I am truly blessed!
The Richville Volunteer Fire Department thanks everyone who bought their Boston Butts. They will again be selling them for Labor Day weekend. These are both fundraisers for the fire department in addition to Bingo.
The next Bingo night will be June 6 starting at 6:30 p.m. Don’t forget they also serve concessions. Also, the Neighborhood Watch had donations of baked goods for sale, so they want to thank all who donated those.
The Old Rock Jail will again be open this Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and the next two Sundays after that. It will be closed Father’s Day Sunday and then open the next Sunday, which will be the last one until September.
Admission is $3 for adults and children under 12 free. Plans are underway for it to be open during Rockford’s 250 Celebration on June 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. We will have a selection of our books to sell, also. So, plan to come out and not only tour the jail, but purchase books about Coosa County!
Providence Baptist Church will have its Kids Night Out/VBS Kick-off on June 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. This will be kick-off for Vacation Bible School.
If the weather cooperates, there will be a water slide in addition to other games. Also, food will be served. It is open to all children from age 3 to highschooler.
Providence will also celebrate Homecoming on Sunday, June 7, beginning at 10 a.m. Former Pastor Mark Seals will be the guest preacher, with Clear Vision Ministries Trio providing the special music. The service will be followed by a meal in the fellowship hall.
The church provides the meat, with sides, desserts and drinks brought by members. All are welcome for fellowship and food, so make plans to attend!
This week my Bible verse is about blessings. Jeremiah 17:7-8 reads, “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
In the face of anxiety and worry, God’s promise remains steadfast if we trust and believe in Him. If we depend on God for our spiritual health, our faith will show a steady growth, building with time. Even through difficulties in our life, believers will continue to produce growth, peace and the ability to bless others.
Pray, also, for others that have lost loved ones in our community, as well as those that are ill. Remember the shut-ins in our community, as well. They don’t just need our prayers, but can benefit from visits, also, even if it’s just a phone call.
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
