The annual Career Tech Education (CTE) awards luncheon welcomed attendees to the luncheon with a Year in Review presentation. Career Tech Center director Hester Hamby welcomed guests, parents and students to the annual event.
Thank you to Tawanna Robinson from the Alabama Office of Apprenticeship for providing the keynote address. Robinson is the assistant director for the Alabama Office of Apprenticeship who shared a message about the importance of skilled workers entering the workforce in our area and the high demand for skilled workers in the Coosa County area.
She advised parents and students that there has been an upward trend in the wages earned by skilled trades people over the last 10 years and that the trend is expected to continue.
Each of the CTE program instructors then presented awards to their students, including those who earned certifications.
Deborah Phillips, Jobs for Alabama Graduates (JAG) instructor, presented awards to JAG students. Lisa Worley, Educators in Training instructor, presented awards to 13 Educators in Training Completers, and 16 students were awarded Credentials in Customer Service.
Brett Thomas, Business Information Technology instructor, awarded Business Information Technology awards to 19 Completers, and 15 students earned Credentials as Adobe and Microsoft Office Specialists.
Jarrod Washington, Automotive Services Technology instructor, presented awards to 16 Completers and led 144 students in earning Credentials in Hunter Engineering Rolling Smooth and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems.
Completer status means the student has completed a sequence of three courses within a single program pathway with a grade of 70 or higher in each course. Whereas Credentials are industry recognized certifications that the Alabama State Department of Education has reviewed and approved as providing proof of a student’s readiness to enter the workforce.
Both Completer status and Credentials are one of only eight ways that a student can earn a College and Career Readiness Indicator, which as of 2026 is a graduation requirement.
In addition, Rachel Reams and Tatum Larrabee were recognized for their Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) invitations to compete at Nationals this summer.
Thank you to Michael Lovett from Central Alabama Community College (CACC) who was on hand to recognize seven students who earned short-term Medical Assisting Technology certificates, earning CACC credits simultaneously as they completed their CTE coursework at the Coosa County Career Tech Center.
