Last Thursday Alabama Policy Action (APA); the state’s leading advocate for free markets, limited government and strong families; officially announced the release of its 2026 Primary Election Voter Guide.
As the May 19 primary quickly approaches, this nonpartisan resource is designed to provide voters with essential, transparent information on where candidates stand on the most pressing issues facing the state.
The 2026 election cycle comes at a pivotal moment for Alabama. With key races for the U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and other state-level and district offices on the ballot, APA’s Voter Guide offers an analysis of candidate positions on fiscal responsibility, the protection of constitutional liberties and commitment to strong families.
Stephanie Smith, executive director of APA, stated, “The APA Voter Guide isn’t about telling people how to vote, but rather seeks to provide the facts and professional analysis about candidates on the ballot so that Alabamians can choose leaders who align with their values.”
The 2026 Voter Guide was compiled from candidate questionnaire responses regarding issues such as tax reform, regulatory overreach and school choice, by an incumbent legislative scorecard using voting records, and with candidate information regarding public statements on issues.
Candidates are then evaluated and reported as verified liberal, liberal, leans liberal, leans conservative, conservative, or verified conservative.
By bridging the gap between policy and the ballot box, APA aims to increase voter information, engagement and accountability for lawmakers across all 67 counties.
The 2026 Primary Election Voter Guide is available for free to the public and can be accessed here: issuu.com/alabamapolicyinstitute/docs/voter_guide-6.
Additional election information can be found here: alabamapolicy.org/alabamapolicyaction.
Physical copies of the APA Voter Guide will be distributed through community partners and local advocacy groups across the state.
