Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
The next Richville Volunteer Fire Department Bingo will be Saturday, April 25, at 6:30 p.m. So come out and support your fire department and have fun doing it. They will also have concessions. So, mark your calendars!
It’s also time to start thinking about those wonderful Boston butts they sell for Memorial Day. So, see any fire department member and get on their list. They are $35, and they usually sell out ahead of time, so get your name on the list.
This Wednesday, April 15, is the tax deadline. Volunteer Connections of Central Alabama (VCCA) is still open in Alexander City on Highway 280. We will be busy through that day doing returns and extensions.
I always enjoy tax season, but also look forward to that last day! I’ve been volunteering now for thirteen years. We have really missed Marty Rittmann; she was the backbone of the Rockford office.
The Coosa County Historical Society will open the “Old Rock Jail” for tours beginning this Sunday, April 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults, and children under 12 free.
It will be open each Sunday until the end of June except for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Memorial Day weekend. It is closed the months of July and August, reopening in September, the Sunday after Labor Day until the last Sunday in October.
The quarterly meeting for the Historical Society will be Sunday, April 26, at 2 p.m. at “The Old Rockford School,” located at the intersection of Coosa County Road 18 and Davis Street.
Chip Gates, historian of the Lake Mitchell HOBO Association, will be our guest speaker. His presentation will be on Native American history of western Coosa County, the history of Fixico Creek and Fixico mines, history of Little Joe’s Fish Camp, and the community of Dollar, which is now covered by Lake Mitchell. He will share stories, photos and mementos during the program.
The public is invited. Membership is not required to attend. The cost of annual membership is only $25. Refreshments will be served.
This week my Bible verse is about after Jesus’ resurrection. Over the next 40 days, He appeared to His disciples and followers proving He was alive! He taught them about God’s kingdom and commissioned them to preach the gospel. John 20:19-20 reads, “On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you!’ After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.”
Jesus appears to the disciples in the locked room showing He is not limited by physical constraints. He also shows them His hands and side to prove that He is not a ghost, but physically resurrected. After this, the disciples go out, empowered for the ministry of spreading the Gospel.
Be in prayer for those that have lost loved ones in our community, as well as those that are ill. Remember the shut-ins in our community, as well. They don’t just need our prayers, but can benefit from visits, also, even if it’s just a phone call.
