Central Cougars cling to victory as Comer nearly erases 7-run deficit

Despite seeing their 7-run lead whittled down by the end, Central still held off for an 8-6 victory on Monday. Comer closed the gap by scoring on a single, a single, a double, and a line out.
Central was the first to get on the board in the first when an error scored one run.
Central added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Waylan Chapman singled up the middle, and Javarious Wilson grounded out, each scoring one run.
A single by Chapman extended Central’s lead to 4-0 in the top of the third inning.
Bryant Wickersham earned the win for Central with the pitcher giving up five hits and six runs (five earned) over five and one-third innings, striking out nine and walking four. CJ Franklin collected the save.
Central piled up 11 hits in the game. Ethan Cosby went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead in hits. Haven Williams, Cosby, Wilson, Wickersham, Chapman, and Jacob Stevens each drove in one run for Central.
Franklin collected two hits for Central in two at bats. Stevens led Central with two walks.
Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting six walks for the game. Williams, Chapman and Stevens each stole multiple bases for Central. Central ran wild on the base paths, amassing 12 stolen bases for the game.
