ALDOT will close all U.S. Highway 280 lanes at Pump House Road to complete necessary bridge demolition in the highway’s ongoing widening project.
Beginning at 11 p.m. on Friday, March 20, weather permitting, crews will close all Highway 280 lanes in both directions at Pump House Road.
Eastbound lanes will remain shut down through the morning of Monday, March 22. Westbound lanes will reopen each morning at 5 a.m. before closing again at 11 p.m.
Crews will reopen all Highway 280 lanes at Pump House Road no later than 6 a.m. on Monday, March 22.
These lane closures mirror those used to install the first three Pump House Road bridge girders in November.
One exception applies to the eastbound off-ramp onto Pump House Road, which will remain closed all weekend.
The demolition is essential to widen Highway 280 to four lanes in each direction from Lakeshore Parkway to I-459.
Major delays are expected, and ALDOT encourages travelers to begin planning alternate paths through this corridor now.
We recommend motorists use Lakeshore Parkway to I-65 to I-459 to Highway 280 as a main detour heading east and the reverse route order for westbound trips. See included detour map.
There will be one additional weekend of road closures to complete the bridge construction in the weeks ahead.
ALDOT wants to thank the public for their patience during this widening effort which will greatly increase Highway 280’s capacity when complete this fall.
