A Goodwater man was arrested earlier this month on drug-related charges, including marijuana, following a traffic stop.
On March 2, Deputy Kelley was patrolling Alabama Highway 9 when he observed a vehicle with an equipment violation. He proceeded to initiate a traffic stop.
Kelley informed the driver of why he was stopped, and while talking to him Kelley smelled the odor of marijuana.
He asked the driver if he had marijuana in the vehicle. The driver retrieved a clear bag from under the passenger seat, with the bag containing a green leafy substance that smelled of marijuana.
The driver stepped out, and Kelley conducted a vehicle search.
Ultimately, 29-year-old Malik Rhyale Kelly was arrested and charged with second-degree possession of marijuana and possession of a synthetic narcotic.
His total bond was set at $17,500, and he was released on bond March 3 to await trial.
