Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Hope everyone has been enjoying this spring-like weather. According to the extended forecast, we have more cold weather next week, but not extreme cold.
Don’t forget Bingo at Richville Volunteer Fire Department will be tomorrow, Saturday, February 21, at 6:30 p.m. So come out and support your fire department and have fun doing it. They will also have concessions.
Also, tomorrow, Kelly’s Crossroads is hosting a Turkey Shoot. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with rounds starting at 10 a.m. Prizes include turkeys, hams, cooked Boston butts, and steak dinner for two. It is $10 per round. They also will have BBQ sandwiches for sale, as well as other items to eat.
Tax season is in full swing. So, if you haven’t already had yours done, come see Volunteer Connections of Central Alabama (VCCA) in Rockford on Wednesdays at the fellowship hall of Rockford Methodist Church for drop-off and pick-up services. This is a free service and no appointment necessary. They will be there every Wednesday with April 8 the last day for pick-ups. We will only take drop-offs that day if you can pick-up in the Alexander City office.
As I was driving the other day, I realized often I’m so focused on getting where I’m going that I don’t observe anything except the road. Often in life we are the same way, focusing on one thing while ignoring all the others happening around us.
I’m not saying don’t pay attention to the road while driving, but look past it to what’s going on around you which can lead to blessings that you might otherwise miss.
That leads to my Bible verses this week about blessings. Matthew 6:30-33 reads, “But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
God makes us a promise that if we follow Him that He will take care of us. That’s not saying that we can just sit back, not do anything and expect to be provided everything we need. We have to do our part in seeking God’s path for us to follow in our lives.
So, take time to smell the roses, but remember that getting them to bloom takes some work. That’s how we should go about what God wants us to do. We as Christians have a duty to tell others about Jesus and salvation.
Be in prayer for those that have lost loved ones in our community, as well as those that are ill. Remember the shut-ins in our community, as well. They don’t just need our prayers, but can benefit from visits, also, even if it’s just a phone call.
