February 24
The February meeting of the Coosa County Republican Party will be held on Tuesday, February 24, at the Hanover Volunteer Fire Department. Fellowship and refreshments begin at 6 p.m., with the meeting starting promptly at 6:30 p.m. In addition to hearing from local candidates, special guests will be Corey Hill, candidate for commissioner of agriculture, and Dr. Stewart Hill Tankersley, candidate for lieutenant governor. This will be a great opportunity to meet the candidates, hear their visions and enjoy fellowship with others.

 

February 26
It’s that time again! Summer Camp registration is now OPEN. This year’s theme is mythical creatures! The cost of camp is $175 and includes lodging, meals, a shirt, and most importantly lots of fun! Spots will go quick! Half of the payment is due by check or money order by Feb. 26! The remaining balance will be due April 17!  Have any questions? February 27

Buzzy the Buzzard says, get some free trees! The Alabama Forestry Commission’s annual tree giveaway will be held Friday, February 27, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Rockford Event Center. Trees will be available for free until gone. This year’s selection includes dogwood, crabapple, sassafras, persimmon, black tupelo, ginkgo, and white oak.

 

February 28
Bibb Graves High School Alumni and Friends Association invites everyone to join them for a rockin’ good time at the Bibb Graves Community Center’s Family Game Night: Jukebox Bingo! We’re celebrating the grooviest hits from the 70s, 80s and 90s with fun bingo games, good food, great prizes, and special blackout bingo rewards. Cards are just 50 cents each. Perfect for all ages! Join us Saturday, February 28, at 5 p.m. in Millerville.

 

March 7

The Equality Volunteer Fire Department Board would like to thank the community for all their continued support of the Equality VFD with a Community Appreciation Day, to be held March 7, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Come join us for a hamburger or hot dog. The Board also invites any candidates in the upcoming election, as well as area churches, to come set up a table for the event. No advance coordination required.

 

March 12

The Coosa County E-911 Board monthly meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 12, at the E-911 Board Room.

 

March 26

The Coosa County Extension office is once again having Spring Wellness Day, complete with a 36-foot interactive RV! The Extension is offering this on two dates to reach as many in the county as possible. Please join us in Rockford on March 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Rockford Event Center to participate.

 

March 27

April 6
The Union Square Neighborhood Watch meets every other month on the first Monday at 6 p.m. at the Union Church and Cemetery. The next meeting date will be April 6. Join us for our Neighborhood Watch meetings and learn about issues around Coosa County and in our neighborhood.

 

April 11

Coosa County Republican Party proudly hosts Candidate Fair on April 11 at The Old Rockford School; located at 8840 Coosa County Road 18, Rockford; from 2 to 6 p.m. Come meet and hear from local and state Republican candidates before the primary election. Local and state candidates who are interested in participating are asked to email coosacountyrepublicans@gmail.com to reserve their table.

 

April 25

Weogufka’s Mule Day returns! This year’s event will be held Saturday, April 25, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Join us for a fun day of music, food, vendors, mules, Children’s Farm Center, car show, and much more! Admission is $5 per vehicle. Vendors needed! For vendor or camper space call Melvin Palmer at 256-249-8885. Sausage biscuits will be sold ahead of the event, beginning at 7 a.m. The Weogufka Center will also be selling fried apple pies! We are also thrilled that Randy Glenn and Peppy will be back on stage at the amphitheater for Mule Day, with their musical entertainment beginning at 9 a.m. Bring a chair, relax, and enjoy some great music! Join us at the Weogufka Center on Memorial Loop in Weogufka for this fun family event!

 

Weekly

The Goodwater Youth Development and Recreational Center is open to the public weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and practice days for the travel ball team are those same days from 5 to 6 p.m. Cheerleader practice is held on Wednesdays and Fridays. Monthly

Richville Neighborhood Watch will be held the first Thursday of each month at the fire department, 13185 Coosa County Rd. 14, Rockford, 35136. The gathering begins with a potluck meal at 6 p.m., and the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Come out and see what is happening in your community.

Monthly breakfast returns to West Coosa Senior Center! The West Coosa Senior Center in Stewartville will host breakfast on the fourth Saturday of each month from 7-10 a.m. at the center, located at 47 Coosa County Road 70, Sylacauga, 35151 (the old Stewartville School). Breakfast is $8 per plate with choice of ham, bacon, sausage, eggs, gravies, and more! Dine in or call ahead at 256-249-2024 to carry out. Donations appreciated! Breakfast will be served monthly now through October, with it not being held in November or December.

West Coosa Friday Night Dance & Dine will be held the second Friday of each month at the West Coosa Senior Center! Live oldies music by The Misfitz Band, Potluck supper – bring your favorite covered dish to share. Doors open at 5 p.m., and supper starts at 5:15 p.m. Admission is FREE! This is a family friendly event – no alcohol! Friday Night Dance & Dine is proudly sponsored by J&J Pest Away. The senior center is located at 47 Coosa County Road 70, Stewartville, 35151.

 

Quarterly

The Hanover Community Club and Neighborhood Watch will now hold quarterly gatherings at Andrews Chapel. These quarterly gatherings are held on the third Tuesday of March, June, September, and December at Andrews Chapel Fellowship Hall at 6 p.m. Everyone is cordially invited and encouraged to attend. Y’all come!
