NOTICE is hereby given that a bill substantially as follows will be introduced in the 2026 Regular Session of the Legislature of Alabama and application for its passage and enactment will be made:
A BILL
TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
Relating to Coosa County; to provide for the salary of the judge of probate; to provide for the salary and expense allowance of the sheriff; to provide for the salary and expense allowance of the revenue commissioner; and to repeal Section 45-19-11, Code of Alabama 1975, providing for compensation for the Coosa County Judge of Probate, Sheriff, and Revenue Commissioner.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
Section 1. (a) Beginning October 1, 2026, in lieu of any other fees, compensation, or expense allowances, the Judge of Probate of Coosa County shall receive an annual salary equal to 70 percent of the salary paid to a state district court judge with equivalent years of service, including any increases in salary due to years of service or cost-of-living adjustments.
(b) The salary of the judge of probate shall be increased any time and in the same manner as the salary of a state district court judge having the same number of cumulative years of service.
(c) The salary provided by this section shall be in lieu of any and all other prior compensation or salary provided by law to the judge of probate, and shall be paid in equal periodic installments from the county general fund.
(d) In order to receive the compensation provided in this section, the judge of probate shall waive any compensation provided under Section 17-3-60, Code of Alabama 1975, relating to reports from the state voter registration list.
(e) In addition to salary, the county shall provide the same insurance and other benefits as received by any other employee of the county.
(f) The judge of probate shall be entitled to reimbursement of expenses related to travel, training, and other official job-related functions in the same manner and to the same extent as other employees of the county.
Section 2. (a) The Sheriff of Coosa County shall continue to receive the annual salary the sheriff is receiving on the effective date of this act for the remainder of the term of office that commenced on January 16, 2023.
(b)(1) Beginning on October 1, 2026, in addition to the salary provided in subsection (a), the sheriff shall be entitled to an expense allowance so that the annual salary and expense allowance of the sheriff is equal to 60 percent of the salary paid to a state district court judge with equivalent years of service, including any increases in salary due to years of service or cost-of-living adjustments.
(2) The expense allowance shall be payable in equal monthly installments from the general fund of the county.
(3) The expense allowance shall be in addition to all other compensation or benefits provided to the sheriff and shall be treated the same as salary for retirement purposes.
(c)(1) Beginning January 18, 2027, in lieu of any other fees, compensation, or expense allowances, the Sheriff of Coosa County shall receive an annual salary equal to 60 percent of the salary paid to a state or district court judge with equivalent years of service, including any increases in salary due to years of service or cost-of-living adjustments, and the expense allowance provided in subsection (b) shall be void.
(2) The salary of the sheriff shall be increased any time and in the same manner as the salary of a state district court judge having the same number of cumulative years of service. The sheriff shall not be eligible for any county-provided employee cost-of-living or salary increases.
(3) The salary provided by this section shall be in lieu of all prior compensation or salary provided by law to the sheriff, and shall be paid in equal periodic installments from the county general fund.
(4) The sheriff shall be entitled to reimbursement of expenses related to travel, training, and other official job-related functions in the same manner and to the same extent as other employees of the county.
(5) In addition to salary, the county shall provide the same insurance and other benefits as received by any other employee of the county.
(6) If the implementation of any cost-of-living adjustment applicable to state district court judges increases the salary of the incumbent sheriff, the increase shall be paid as an expense allowance until the beginning of the next term of office, when the amount of the expense allowance shall be included in the base salary of the sheriff and the expense account shall then be voided.

Section 5. This act shall become effective on October 1, 2026.

Coosa County is taking sealed bids for labor, equipment, materials, and any incidentals required to complete the work required for the Project No. RA-CCP 19-04-26, Full Depth Reclamation and Surface Treatment on CR-54 From SR-259 to the Tallapoosa County Line, for the county. This bid is intended to comply with the Rebuild Alabama Act, No. 2019-2, and Alabama Code Title 39, the Alabama Public Works Law. Bidders shall be required to comply with the provisions of the Rebuild Alabama Act, No. 2019-2 and Title 39 of the Alabama Code regardless if the requirement is explicitly detailed in the bid proposal or not.
Only bids from contractors or material suppliers listed on the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) approved list of contractors and material suppliers will be accepted. All bids must be marked with the word “BID” on the outside of the bid package along with Bid Proposal for Project No. RA-CCP 19-04-26, FDR & Surface Treatment on CR-54, the bid date and the Alabama General Contractor’s License Number.
