Equality & Nixburg News
Jennifer Williamson
We just returned from a business/personal trip. My employer held their annual meeting, and we were allowed to bring a plus one, so my wonderful husband joined me.
My employer’s annual meeting was held on a 3-day Bahama cruise, our first ever cruise. The weather was wonderful on the cruise, but we have returned to this winter cold. In fact Florida was colder than I ever remember Florida being, but even colder back home here in Equality.
We had a wonderful neighbor take care for our animals while we were gone. It is so nice to have such wonderful neighbors within our community. Fortunately, there were no issues or drama, unlike our last trip out of town. This gives us more confidence in being able to travel in the future if we get the opportunity.
Please continue to support ongoing activities in our community such as:
- The Equality quilting group which meets every Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jenny’s General Store.
- Kendrick Memorial Baptist Church’s yard sale, held most Saturdays starting at 8 a.m. Address is 5152 Ala. Highway 9 in case you haven’t noticed it driving on Highway 9.
- Elaine Rutledge of Nixburg hosts Rummikub at the Alexander City Senior Center in the Sportplex every first and third Friday starting at 10 a.m.
The first 2026 monthly Equality Neighborhood Watch meeting was held on Thursday, January 22. I hope I saw you there.
Look for impromptu fundraising meals prepared by Dave Dial. If you have not noticed, there is a new deck being added to the Equality Volunteer Fire Department Lodge building, and Dave has been using his passion for cooking as the means to support this new project for the community. The deck will be a nice addition to the newly refurbished building efforts that have occurred this past fall.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
