It takes time to get things done

Equality & Nixburg News

This past week with the frigid 20-degree weather I hope was a one shot and we won’t have that low of temperatures the rest of winter. But I guess that would be wishful thinking, wouldn’t it?

I never did handle cold weather well, and it doesn’t help living in a very old house, nor driving a very old truck that needs the heater core replaced. I have learned to dress in layers and carry blankets with me.

Thankfully the week ended more on a warm note; however, the rain prevented me from doing more outdoor activities. I have neighbors who want me to finish cleaning up from the Roger’s Shrubbery greenhouse removal.

I have taken so many loads to the dump the guys know me by name and greet me warmly when I enter. But I am only one person, on a tight budget, both financially and time wise. I do what I can, and I do want to get it cleared up, but rain means I can’t work outside, nor will the dump be open. And I am terrified to hire anyone because either they charge more money than I make or they do such a poor job that I have to do it myself anyway. So, folks will just have to wait for me to have time and nice weather, or they can come to help me get it done.

The Equality quilting group meets every Monday evening from 6 to 8 at Jenny’s General Store, except for the Monday after Christmas, December 29. Everyone is welcome, even if you are not actively quilting.

We have some that come and stitch, knit, crochet, or just come and visit while others cut, piece, layer, and quilt. It is a good time to socialize and share our skills with each other.

Please continue to support ongoing activities such as by Kendrick Memorial Baptist Church’s yard sale, held most Saturdays starting at 8 a.m. The address is 5152 Ala. Highway 9 in case you haven’t noticed it driving on Highway 9. Elaine Rutledge of Nixburg hosts Rummikub at the Alexander City Senior Center in the Sportplex every first and third Friday starting at 10 a.m.

I wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. May it be filled with many blessings and great joy.

I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
