Once again people across the deep south had the opportunity to view the aurora borealis, or nothern lights, last week, with many taking to social media to share photos of the phenomenon. Thanks to a strong geomagnetic storm, the northern lights were visible across Alabama and the deep south last Tuesday night, even being seen as far south as the Florida panhandle. While the aurora was partially visible the following night, it was not as vivid or noticeable as November 11. Many Coosa Countians took advantage of this rare opportunity to enjoy the northern lights, capturing numerous photos despite the cold night. The aurora was visible unusually far south this time because of strong solar activity. Photos by Christa Jennings
