Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
So, this is the end of October! While it started out very dry, looks like it will end as very wet. I’m not complaining because we need the rain.
Tonight is Halloween, but forecasts are saying dry and cold, so come out to Rockford and enjoy the night. Providence Baptist Church will be handing out treat bags at the home of our pastor, north of the four way stop on U.S. Highway 231. So, stop by and get a bag. There are plenty of places in town that will be handing out treats, as well as activities at the Rockford Park.
Don’t forget Sunday morning time will “fall back” one hour. In years past, we would have to reset all the clocks before going to bed Saturday night, but now most do it automatically. Enjoy the extra hour of sleep.
There are several officials that are trying to make daylight savings time permanent. I personally think we just need to decide and let it stay one way or the other. It’s so hard to make the transition twice a year.
Last Sunday the Historical Society had their quarterly meeting at Edgewood Plantation. Even with dreary skies we had a good turnout.
J.T. McDonald did an excellent job presenting various information, including a Civil War letter that he displayed. We were all amazed at the beautiful handwriting the letter displayed. Sadly, today penmanship is a thing of the past, as well as writing and being able to read cursive. Handwriting of any kind is a lost art with few people sending letters or cards anymore.
Congratulations on the opening of Enoch’s Hardware Bait and Tackle. Seeing the pictures, he seems to have a little of it all, so go out and support your local hometown store for all your hardware, etc. needs.
This week my Bible verse is about kindness. We are supposed to be kind to one another, but sometimes that’s easier said than done.
Luke 6:35 reads, “But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.”
Did you catch the phrase “expecting nothing in return?” So often we change the wording of “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” to “Do unto others before they do it to you!” It’s hard to do good deeds without expecting something in return, but that’s what this verse says for us to do.
Even harder is to be kind and show love to your enemies or those that hurt you. Our enemies come in all shapes and sizes, but regardless we should show love and kindness to them. There shouldn’t be any caveat about what you do for someone else gives you a return of some kind.
In fact, being kind to someone who you know won’t or can’t give you anything in return shows what a true Christian is. I encourage you this week to show kindness to someone who can’t give you anything in return; that’s what obeying God’s instructions is all about.
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text 334-414-7147 or email wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
