Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
So thankful for the rain! Hopefully we will get more. It’s so dry and dusty. The leaves are really turning, and driving through the country roads is so pretty.
Just drive north of Kelly’s Crossroads on County Road 29 toward Weogufka or on County Road 40 between highways 22 and 9; both are so pretty. I’m sure there are other roads in the county that are beautiful to drive with the fall leaves, but those two I have driven recently.
Congratulations to the Central Cougars on making the playoffs – the first time since 2015. Coach Flowers and his assistants have done a great job working with the players. Hope we have a win to celebrate, but just getting to the playoffs is great!
This Sunday, October 26, is the last day to visit the Old Rock Jail this year. Also, a reminder, the Historical Society will have its quarterly meeting at Debra Lamberth’s “Edgewood Plantation” home located on Ala. Highway 22 West on Sunday, October 26, as well.
- T. McDonald will be our speaker, bringing stories about Rockford and surrounding areas. We meet at 2 p.m., and refreshments are provided by our members. You don’t have to be a member to attend, so all are welcome.
The Historical Society has completed some projects and have others in progress. We now have the computer setup for us to start digitizing our records. Also, we are working on a website which should be available in January. The Veteran’s Memorial has been updated with 18 names added. We will continue to add names as we receive five or more. So, come join and be a part of the excitement of our progress.
Last week my Bible verse was about perseverance; this week will be on patience. Colossians 3:12 reads, ‘Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”
These are traits of what a Christian should be. We often do these some of the time, but maybe not all the time. I’m probably not by myself.
Patience seems to be a thing of the past. We live in an “instant” world now where everyone expects instant results. Not having patience is seen in all the road rage incidents that happen, as well as people interrupting others when they are talking or trying to get ahead of them in line.
While this verse lists five traits, I only wanted to concentrate on the last one this week. I know that one is my worst habit; well to be honest, probably a couple of the others are, also.
Sometimes we have to take a deep breath and remind ourselves that we need to slow down, not rush, and let the other person finish whatever it is. However, that’s easier said than done. So, I encourage you to stop and not rush the situation, but take the time to show all five of these traits when dealing with others.
