Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
These cool mornings definitely feel like fall. It feels so good to sit on the porch in the mornings with a cup of coffee and enjoy the scenery. I don’t get to do it as often as I like, but take advantage when I can.
While enjoying the cool mornings with the sunshine, we need rain. October is traditionally a dry month, but we didn’t get much rain in September either. So be careful if you have a fire outside for any reason; it can quickly get out of control.
This time of year, bonfires are common while you enjoy a weiner and marshmallow roast, but you need to be careful. Every day I see on Facebook reports of a fire that was supposed to be small to burn trash, get rid of yellowjacket nests, etc. turn into a major fire that threatens or destroys property.
While our county is blessed to have volunteer fire departments in each community, they are limited in resources in manpower just because they are volunteer. That means any time they are limited in who’s available depending on time and day, so don’t create additional work for them because you think “I have this under control.”
Central Cougars play Lafayette tonight at 7 at home. Also, tonight, all the senior players will be recognized. Good luck, Cougars!
Just a reminder the Old Rock Jail is only open this Sunday and next before we close until next April. On October 26, the Historical Society will have its quarterly meeting at Debra Lamberth’s “Edgewood Plantation” home located on Ala. Highway 22 West. J. T. McDonald will be our speaker, bringing stories about Rockford and surrounding areas. We meet at 2 p.m., and refreshments are provided by our members. You don’t have to be a member to attend, so all are welcome.
My Bible verse this week is about perseverance. Isaiah 41:10 reads, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
What is perseverance? The dictionary defines it as persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. Biblically, it is going through challenges and trials that our faith is strengthened, our character created, and our hope in God’s faithfulness is renewed.
We don’t just endure hardships as Christians, but they create growth in our relationship with God. No matter what obstacle or trial occurs in our lives, we continue to trust God to see us through it. It’s easy to say “oh me” and give up when things get in the way of what we want to achieve.
Perseverance is remembering that God is with us regardless of circumstances. We just have to be patient, prayerful and persistent in our actions. So, just hang in and ask God to help you during your struggles, then be willing to accept what He does with it.
