Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
It’s October! October is traditionally one of the driest months of the year.
We are already starting the month with a deficit in rainfall, with possibilities low for rainfall for the month. While the Alabama Forestry Commission has not issued a “no burn” ban, please be careful if you must do any outside fires. It is so easy for it to get away from you, and with the dry ground it can escalate fast.
I think more of the leaves are falling off than turning. My yard is covered in leaves that have blown down from the surrounding trees. We’ll have to wait and see if we will get any fall color this year. Usually Coosa County Highway 29 from Kelly’s Crossroads north is beautiful when the leaves turn. To me it rivals any roads in the Smokies! There are several other areas in the county that have beautiful drives, as well.
Kelly’s Crossroads is hosting a Pumpkin Patch event tomorrow, October 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Entry is free. There will be vendors selling various items. Special sandwich for the day is BBQ! So come out and see what everyone has to offer and get some great lunch!
Providence Baptist Church will have a special speaker for the morning service, Charlie Roberts, Operation Christmas Child director from Atlanta. He will bring the message, as well as information about the Operation Christmas Child box ministry. We will be kicking off our season to collect boxes!
So happy I get to offer congratulations to the Central Cougar football team again. This is three wins in a row! It made it extra special since it was Homecoming!
My Bible verse this week is about patience with others. Proverbs 14:29 reads, “Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly.”
We have seen so much impatience with others this week in the news. People having road rage, fighting over a football game and just letting our temper get the best of us. It’s hard sometimes to have that great understanding so we don’t lose our tempers.
The world revolves around the “I” syndrome to the point that people don’t consider other people’s feelings in anything. I’ve heard the expression to put yourself in others’ shoes, then you’ll understand them better. However, I can’t imagine being in the person’s shoes that are shooting and killing just because.
I know we are to forgive others and turn the other cheek. However, as a person, that’s hard when you see senseless loss of life over insignificant things. I pray every day for God to give me patience with others, to be kind and loving to all, and slow to respond in anger.
Some days, I succeed and others I’m sorry to say I don’t. So, pray for patience in your everyday life and forgiveness of those that treat you unfairly.
Be in prayer for the ones that have lost a loved one and that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times, when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
