Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Hope everyone had a great long weekend. While mine was busy, I had a great time.
Happy birthday to all the ones celebrating in September, including two of my granddaughters, grandson-in-law and a great-grandson.
This past week started out like fall with the cooler morning temperatures and lower humidity. However, later in the week, the temperature will be back up.
The Richville Volunteer Fire Department wants to thank everyone who bought a Boston butt from them. Also, those that volunteered their time to wrap and cook. It is appreciated!
Don’t forget, tomorrow, Saturday, September 6, Providence Baptist Church will host our 2nd Annual Fishing Tournament at Barretts on Lake Mitchell. Registration is $110 which includes big fish. Guaranteed First Place $1,000. To pre-register contact Wayne Ward at 334-467-7660. You can also pay tomorrow with cash with registration beginning at 4 a.m. Launch will be safe daylight with weigh-in at 2 p.m. Lunch will be provided. So come join us, even if you don’t fish!
Then beginning Sunday morning, September 7, Providence Baptist Church will begin revival. The evangelist will be Bro. Tony Christianson from Chilton County. Services on Sunday will be at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday services will start at 6:30 p.m. On Sunday following morning services, we will have a meal in the fellowship hall. All are invited to stay and eat!
Starting a new month with Bible verses about happiness. Romans 12:12 reads, “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.”
I found the following quote on Facebook and thought what a great way to start off a new month. The quote is, “Happiness comes when we stop complaining about the troubles we have and offer thanks for all the troubles we don’t have.”
Isn’t that a great thought! Sadly, many of us tend to be in the first camp, complaining about all our troubles without thanking God for the troubles we don’t have or our blessings.
We often search for happiness in wrong places or ways instead of with God as our source. While this verse does mention tribulation, it tells us to be patient. Being patient is not complaining, but we need to continually depend on God.
Being constant in prayer is talking with God about everything, not just big issues. If you read the verse again, you’ll see that it doesn’t say if we follow the verse, we’ll have everything we want. Being happy is difficult for many people; human nature makes us otherwise.
So, this month, I challenge you to find something to be happy about each day. It can be happy if we have something or happy that we don’t. If we look, we can always find someone worse off than we are, so we should be thankful that we have what they don’t.
So, be happy. Look at the glass as half full, not half empty.
Be in prayer for the ones that have lost a loved one and that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times, when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
