A Coosa County inmate was arrested last week after assaulting a correctional officer.
On August 24, Deputy Parker was dispatched to the Coosa County Jail in Rockford. Dispatch advised him that an inmate, 64-year-old John Anthony Presley of Rockford, had grabbed a correctional officer around her neck and shortly after also grabbed his crotch area.
The correctional officer was dispensing medications when Presley reached through the food slot or pass-through of the cell and grabbed her around the throat.
Parker arrived and got the officer to safety. She received medical treatment from Coosa 22, and Parker took photos of her neck area where she was choked.
Deputies Parker and Brown also reviewed video footage of the incident, resulting in Presley being charged with second-degree assault of a law enforcement officer and indecent exposure.
His total bond for those two charges was set at $7,500. As of press time he remained in custody at the Coosa County Jail awaiting trial.
