With full backpacks and smiles, students headed back to school Tuesday, but school staff were not the only ones greeting students with smiles, handshakes and high fives.
Thank you to the community who came out to welcome the students back to school, including the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office, Empowered to Conquer, county commissioners, and school board members.
Both Central Elementary and Central High School held open house orientations with parents and students Monday, but the high school held an additional assembly at the close of the school day Tuesday to make sure students understood some new board and state policies.
Principal Lee shared all the great things going on around campus, as well as information on how the new Focus Act, which prohibits electronic devices during the instructional day, will be implemented.
Students will enter via two entrances, the front door for drivers and car riders or the gymnasium for bus riders. After turning their devices off or putting them on airplane mode, students will put their electronic devices in a pouch locked by teachers.
The students either carry the pouch with them throughout the day or put it in their locker. At the end of the day, their pouch is unlocked, and students take their devices home with them.
Athletic director, Debbie Phillips, also went over the board policy regarding athletic travel for students with excessive absences. Students who have 10 or more absences will no longer be able to leave school early to travel to away games.
Thank you to students, staff, parents, and community members for making the first day back to school a positive experience for our students. The 2025-2026 school year is off to a great start, and we are very excited about everything in store for the new school year.
