Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
August is here, so it is time for those big yellow buses to be on the road in the morning and afternoon. School starts on Tuesday, August 5, so watch out for students waiting for the bus.
The Richville Neighborhood Watch will meet this Thursday, August 7, at 6:30 p.m. with potluck supper beginning at 6 p.m. Come out and see what’s happening in the neighborhood!
Bingo was well attended Saturday night with a lot of fun and fellowship. The next bingo will be on Saturday, August 9, at 6:30 p.m. at the Richville Fire Department. So, come join us for a night of fun and fellowship. The next one after this will probably be in December after the football season.
They are taking orders for the Labor Day Boston Butt sales. Since Labor Day falls on September 1 this year, pickup will be on Saturday, August 30, between 7 and 9 a.m. Be sure and get on their list as they usually sell out.
The Historical Society had a good meeting on Sunday with Jim Phillips as the speaker. Our next meeting is scheduled for October 26. We will be purchasing the office equipment soon and getting ready to start our digitization project very soon after that. Remember the “Old Rock Jail” is closed until Sunday, September 7.
The Back to School Bash at Providence Baptist Church is tonight. Looking forward to seeing all those that have preregistered. Be sure and text Malisa at 334-467-7725 if your child will be riding the van so we can accommodate everyone.
Providence Baptist Church will host our 2nd Annual Fishing Tournament on Saturday, September 6, at Barretts on Lake Mitchell. More details in the next couple of weeks, but go ahead and put it on your calendar.
My Bible verses this week are about encouraging others. As school starts, take the time to encourage those students to be motivated as they attend school. Look for something to say that encourages and lifts someone up, not discourages them.
Having a positive attitude ourselves helps to motivate others to have the same. So, as school starts, don’t be negative, but look for the good things that are happening.
Hebrews 10: 24-25 reads, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another – and all the more as you see the day approaching.”
Don’t fill Facebook with complaints about the school, teachers and elected officials, but look for things that encourage and uplift those in authority, whether school officials or those elected. Talk up your fellow employees at work instead of your own accomplishments. With just a little encouragement, it can make a big difference in our school, communities and our lives.
Be in prayer for the ones that have lost a loved one and that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times, when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
