The Lake Martin Area United Way will hold its annual Day of Action at Central High School Coosa County next Friday, and it is not too late to sign up to volunteer.
Coosa Central’s Day of Action will be from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. July 18. All student volunteers will receive four hours of community service, even if the work is finished early.
Courtney Layfield, executive director with Lake Martin Area United Way, said that at Coosa they will be doing a mixture of both inside and outside projects.
Volunteers who have yard tools they can bring, such as blowers or weed eaters, are encouraged to bring them as Layfield said they would be helpful. She stated that they also have an area where scaffolding or a tall ladder would be beneficial, if someone can provide one.
“We will provide as much as we can for the projects, but United Way has a limited number of tools,” Layfield said. “We will also be doing a fair amount of general cleaning this year and will supply all the necessary items to clean with.”
Those interested in volunteering can still go online to www.unitedwaylakemartin.org/day-action to register online, or simply show up the day of, and United Way will have volunteer registration forms and extra T-shirts on site.
A new option added this year is group registration. So if a “group” is coming, such as BridgeWays or several people from the same employer, they can sign up as a group at www.unitedwaylakemartin.org/form/day-of-caring-team-registration.
In addition to volunteers, United Way is looking for sponsors to make a financial donation to help with the purchase of supplies for the projects or to donate water, Gatorade and snacks for the volunteers.
For more information on donations or sponsorships, contact Layfield at 256-329-3600 or via email to courtney.layfield@unitedwaylakemartin.org.
