Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
Life has a way of really messing with people. One day things are going great, and the next it is like nothing will go right: one step forward, two steps back. I try to stay positive, but it really gets challenging the older I get.
I’m so tired of all the trials and tribulations after decades of hard work. It seems the reward of a quiet retirement is not in my future from where I see things today. If I had stayed in Huntsville things would have been different and I would have that nice retirement ready for me, but I made the decision to move and now have to deal with the law of unintended consequences and work until I die.
I did apply for a small business grant for Jenny’s General for the purpose of upgrading the septic system to support a future commercial kitchen. Nothing fancy, just enough to get the health department’s approval for a deli counter and sandwiches. Although I keep getting told fries are a must, but fries would create a need for an expensive grease trap on the upgraded septic system, and I’m not sure if the grant award would cover such an expense.
But now I also need to replace the roof and AC units, but these are the costs of being in business, and maybe I can find another grant opportunity to help with those, not that I have been awarded the first to begin with. The only bright spot is that some of these costs can be recouped when I sell the property.
First Saturday is tomorrow, June 7, for the Equality Volunteer Fire Department fundraising events. Dave Dial has the bay closest to the road set up with seating and will be cooking breakfast and lunch right out front. The rummage sale items are in the center bay and sharing the first bay with the bake sale. It starts at 8 a.m. with breakfast for a small donation. Lunch starts at 11 a.m., and the bake sale is until sold out or 1 p.m., whichever comes first.
The Neighborhood Watch meeting is the fourth Thursday of the month, which is June 26 at 6:30 at Equality VFD Lodge. Everyone is welcome to come to fellowship with the community and find out what is happening in Coosa County. Bring yourself, bring a dish if you wish, or donate for all the food we know Dave Dial is going to prepare for everyone – no obligation or requirement, just come! Have a good day and be safe!
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
