Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day. My granddaughter, her husband and my youngest great-grand left Tuesday morning heading back to Twentynine Palms, Calif. After being here for more than four weeks, my house is very quiet! In the fall, they will be moving to North Carolina, which is a one-day drive, so maybe we can see them more often.
The Richville Volunteer Fire Department thanks everyone who helped cook and those that purchased the Boston butts. You are appreciated! The next Bingo will be on June 14 at 6:30 p.m. so mark your calendars and plan to attend.
The Richville Neighborhood Watch will hold its monthly meeting next week on Thursday, June 5.
Providence Baptist Church will have homecoming on June 1, beginning at 10 a.m. Special music will be provided by Promised Land, and Bro. Jeff Hardy will bring the message followed by a fellowship meal. Everyone is invited. They will also have Vacation Bible School starting June 16 at 5:30 pm.
Don’t forget tomorrow, May 31, is the Rockford Spring Fling at the Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. They will have vendors, food trucks, music, and inflatable water slide for the kids. It will be located around Jackson Street and Nixburg Road at the Rockford Playground. So, make plans to come out and attend.
The “Old Rock Jail’ will be open each Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in June except for Father’s Day. The Coosa County Historical Society is still seeking donations to purchase the necessary equipment to digitize all our records, newsletters, etc. Donations may be mailed to Coosa County Historical Society; P.O. Box 5; Rockford, AL 35136. All donations are tax deductible.
My Bible verse this week is found in Joshua 1:9. It reads, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
I didn’t have a particular theme in mind this week for my scripture, but this was in my thoughts. God is with us wherever we go, but He still wants us to be strong. This is not about physical strength, but spiritual strength. How can we be strong in that way? By reading and studying the Bible, as well as spending time in prayer.
Nowhere does the Bible say for us to just sit back and wait for something to happen in our lives. We have to put ourselves out there, but we need to pray about our actions first so we are doing God’s will, not ours.
Be in prayer for all those that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times, when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
