On Monday, April 7, the Alabama Department of Corrections K-9 Team at Staton Correctional Facility was notified about three trespassers on state property at nearby Elmore Correctional Facility in Elmore.
The team responded with the assistance of Elmore County Sheriff’s deputies. Three suspicious vehicles were discovered and searched, and two suspects were arrested.
During the vehicle searches, the officers recovered cell phones, narcotics and a package wrapped in black tape.
Two suspects, Jamie Gardner and Terrance Washington, were arrested and transported to the Elmore County Jail.
Gardner was charged with third-degree criminal trespass, second-degree possession of marijuana and resisting arrest, and Washington had outstanding felony warrants.
This was a collaborative operation between ADOC’s K-9 and Law Enforcement Services Divisions and the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be pending.
