Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
It’s April, and spring has come! However, that just means that we will have unsettled weather for a while, warm a few days then a cool spell.
Remember April showers bring May flowers. I love this time of year when all the trees are getting leaves, and the flowers are starting to bloom. We have a lot of events coming up, especially this weekend.
It’s here! The Richville Volunteer Fire Department and Neighborhood Watch Spring Fling is tomorrow, April 5, from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by Bingo at 6:30. Make plans to attend. There will be fun and games for all. There will be something for everyone, so bring the family for an afternoon of fun and games.
They need donations of cakes and baked goods for the cake walk and new toys ($5 value) for the toy walk. They will also be selling concessions. Please contact someone in the fire department or Neighborhood Watch if you can donate. Or you can always contact me at the number and email address at the end of the column.
A Rockford Community Workday will be tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to begin cleaning inside and outside of the Old Rockford School. All supplies will be furnished, as well as lunch.
The Historical Society will be opening the Old Rock Jail beginning this Sunday, April 6, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. We will be closed on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, the months of July and August, then reopen the weekend after Labor Day in September until the end of October. Admission is $3 per person with children under 12 free.
Also, we need volunteers to help staff it on Sundays. You must be a member of the Historical Society; dues are $15 per year with an extra $5 if you want newsletters mailed to you. You can send a check to the Coosa County Historical Society; P.O. Box 5; Rockford, AL 35136.
Also, on Sunday, April 6, S.P.U.R. Ministries will host “Horse Whisperer” at Central Coosa Cowboy Church. Lunch will be served from 12-2 with the event starting at 2 p.m. This is free and open to the public.
This Wednesday, April 9, is the last day to pick up your taxes at Rockford Methodist Church Fellowship Hall from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you can’t make it, then they will be available at the Alexander City location next to Karen Channell State Farm.
The Town of Rockford will host an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 12, at 10 a.m. It will be at the football field on Nixburg Road. In May, they will host their Spring Fling Vendor event; more details later.
My Bible verses this month will be about Easter. Romans 10:9 reads, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
What powerful words, yet so simple. It is so simple to be saved, but so important. Confess and believe!
Be in prayer for all those that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times, when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
