Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Last day in February! Hard to believe we have finished two months of the year already.
February is a short month, being only four weeks except leap year when it adds a day. It always seems like when you make it through February, you are headed to spring. We’ll have to see what the March weather brings. I’m looking forward to the time change in a couple of weeks!
Last weekend was sure a doozy with all the storms and power outages across the county then freezing temperatures. Hopefully our weather will improve, and we do have an early spring. I want to thank all the electrical company workers that worked so hard to restore power as quickly as possible.
Change of date for the Richville Volunteer Fire Department Bingo! It has been changed from tomorrow, March 1, to next Saturday, March 8. So, be sure and update your calendars.
So, make plans to come out for a good time. It starts at 6 p.m., and you play 20 games for $10. There are a variety of prizes to choose from, so everyone who wins can find something.
If you need your taxes prepared come to the free tax clinic at Rockford Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. They are there each Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Appointments can be made by calling the Alexander City location at 256-234-0347. Be sure to tell them you want an appointment for the Rockford location. Walk-ins are welcome, also.
This is the last week for Bible verses about love. This week’s verse is one that almost everyone can say by heart, John 3:16. It reads, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
This verse is the most well-known verse in the Bible. It has been called “the gospel in a nutshell,” as well as “the golden text of the Bible.” This is the core of Christianity, expressing God’s motive for sending Jesus to save humanity.
The word “loved” is the Greek word “agape.” It is much more than our English word “love;” there is no comparison. It is a selfless and nonsexual love that only God can express. The world represents the entire human race; therefore, it expresses God’s unlimited love for believers and nonbelievers. However, the word “believes” requires a commitment from each of us to God to follow Him. Jesus took the punishment that was meant for us. Then the word “everlasting” is more than unending; it is ageless.
Be in prayer for all those that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times, when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
